Margalla Hills Park

The Margalla Hills National Park is located in the foothills of the Himalayan range. This park is the most accessible park in Pakistan due to its close proximity to the national capital, Islamabad. It is an extension of the Islamabad wildlife sanctuary, which includes the Shakar Parian Hills and the Rawal Lake.

The park was setup to provide refuge to the Gray Goral, Barking deer and the Leopard, found in this area during winters. Protection for these animals has also benefitted other unusual and interesting smaller animals as well.

Margalla Hills Park provides an excellent bird watching opportunity. A Cheer Pheasant hatchery has been established at Chak Jabri to raise Cheer pheasants that have become extinct in the hills. These are then released in the wild.

Shakar-Parian Hilltop

Museums & Attractions

There are numerous cultural attractions that can be found in and around the city of Islamabad , which include various museums, a number of mosques and shrines, historical monuments, parks, art galleries and more.

The Pakistan Museum of Natural History displays the early history of the area today known as Pakistan through a wide range of exhibits. Located in the National Park on Garden Avenue, it is perfectly situated to show how the geology of the land has developed over the centuries. Wildlife and the early humans are also portrayed in the museum. Admission is free to all, and the hours of operation are 9am to 4pm every day of the week, except on Fridays when it is closed.

Lok Virsa Heritage Museum & Library displays the cultural heritage of Pakistani people. The living style of the different areas of Pakistan is exhibited here in statues, pictures, pottery, music and textile work. Lok Virsa is the finest cultural museum in Pakistan.

National Monument or Pakistan Monument is built on the West View Point of Shakar Parrian Hills. The monument can be viewd from all vantage points of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It is designed by an eminent architect Mr. Arif Masoud, and was completed in March 2007. The Monument has been designed to reflect the culture and civilization of the country and also depicts the story of Pakistan Movement and it is dedicated to the people of Pakistan who sacrificed their today for a better tomorrow. It gives a beautiful view  of the city at night.

The Faisal Mosques is one of the most famous sights in the city of Islamabad, and is one of the largest mosques in the entire world. The construction of the mosque began in the 1970’s, and took a decade to finish. The mosque opened to the public in 1986.

Taxila Museum is located 35 km from Islamabad on the on the Grand Trunk Road to Peshawar. Taxila Museum is one of the best and most well-maintained museums of Pakistan. Timings of the museum are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm in summer, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in winter. It is a site museum in so far as all the material exhibited here have been excavated in the different sites of Taxila. The museum was designed in the Greek style and galleries were set up by Sir John Marshall, the Diretor General of Archaeology in British India.

Murree - The Queen of Hills

Beyond Murree the hill resorts of Ayubia, Bhurban, Patriata and Nathiagali also offer cool respite from the torrid heat of the plains in the summer months. Perhaps the most sought after of the hill resorts is the Nathiagali, 32 kms form Murree and at a height of 2510 m. Ayubia is famous for its nature walks. Bhurban, besides being famous for its golf course also presents a breath taking view of the surroundings.

The road snaking its way through the margalla hills offers a comfortable and a safe journey with a breathtaking view all along. There's a restaurant called 'monal'. The food is awesome with a impressive view too. With live music and a desi (traditional) touch you will defenitely love it.
